Jan Johnson is a local Indiana artist, who grew up in Broad Ripple. She works primarily in oils. Her work is Alla-Prima method (wet-on-wet), and she likes to keep her paintings loose. Favorite subjects, are animals, and town scenes. She has earned awards from the Carmel Plein Art Paint Out, and the Indiana State Fair. She began her studies with Susan Mauck, and recently worked with David Seward.
Jan’s love for art was a direct influence from her mother. She inherited her mothers paint box of oils, and feels connected to her with her painting.

My paintings are mostly done in oil. I paint what I like, and I want it to be loose. It should not look like a photograph. My favorite subjects, are animals. I think I have learned the most about color through them. I have not settled on a body of work in one subject. I am still exploring, and enjoying everything I can in my paintings.
